Elissa Welle was a news intern at STAT as part of the AAAS Mass Media Fellowship. Prior to STAT, she was a breaking news reporter at the Detroit Free Press in Michigan, where she covered everything from traffic to endangered birds. While a student writer at The Michigan Daily, she broke stories about abuse in academic institutions. Elissa received a B.S. in bioengineering at Cornell University and a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering at University of Michigan. She is based in Boston.
