Everyone deserves to benefit from the latest medical advances, and Winn believes this will only happen if clinical trials represent the diversity of the whole population. That’s the premise behind the newly renamed Robert Winn Diversity in Clinical Trials Award Program, a $114 million initiative backed largely by Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation. The Winn awards dole out funding aimed at training medical students and physicians in inclusive clinical research and effective community engagement. Last year’s renaming follows a career full of efforts by Winn, a renowned lung cancer researcher, to tackle disparities in health care. He is set to take the reins of the Association of American Cancer Institutes this October.
